“Bird #2” – 1975

In “Bird,” the second artwork to carry this title, there is an interesting connection between the head-end and the leg-end of the flying fowl. The plastic fork feet are mirrored by a pair of plastic spoons for the head and beak. And the electrical conduits, separated into two strands for each of the legs, are mystically wired together in the shoe-sole body, emerging as one lead for the neck. Also, while there are no feathers on the wings of the bird (Hirshman almost never used the real object to portray the same thing in the image), the bird is flying over no less than a sea of quilled plumes.
