Given Hirshman’s comedic sense of form, it is not surprising that Groucho Marx – an anarchistic on-screen master of witty repartee –  would be among the artist’s subjects. Here were the kindred spirits of the absurd: a comedian who could shoot an elephant in his pajamas and then wonder how the pajamas got on the elephant, and a caricaturist who could find a face in the sliding lid of a box and leave us to wonder why the box contained  suspenders.
