“Landscape” – 1982

The name of Hirshman’s only landscape – “Landscape”- is anything but a serene, idyllic rural view of small town life. Instead it is a continuation of Hirshman’s surreal assemblages in the first half of the 1980s. There is a water skier pulled by a fish; a stork carrying newborn on a pull tab; the top of a flagpole that looks suspiciously like the head of a penis and much more. All of which makes it fun to explore the artwork – and Hirshman’s mind.
