Hirshman’s beautiful and dark “Storm” – a wind-swept collage of weathered tin can lids, bottle caps and pull tabs on a black glove tree that not only braves the pelting rain, but boldly bends into the worst the elements can offer – was his most serious work.  It showed that Hirshman, known for his upbeat wit, was also a master of angst.
