“The Timekeeper” – (no year given)

“The Timekeeper” is a strange Hirshman piece that was never given a  date for creation, which could have been a purposeful Hirshman joke – a timekeeper who doesn’t know the year may be in the wrong job. Certainly, his handless clock would be of no help in marking the hours and minutes lost. His only companions are a bird on his right hand with a barely visible black spine of bones from head to tail and a spider to his left dropping on a spun thread of its own making from the clock. While not one of Hirshman’s best works, the eerie image could be enough keep bed-bound viewers awake –  and fearing the sheep they count.
