“Two Comedians” – 1986

While this was Hirshman’s last piece (and final of his circus-themed collages) it was not finished. It was still on his studio easel when he died before noses and mouths could be added. But of the rest that was completed, the playing cards stand out. The uppermost card, an ace of diamonds, has two hearts added, one above the diamond shape and one below. Why he did this will never be known.
